best arts and science college - kumaraguru

In a world that often demands we pick a lane—science or art, logic or creativity, business or impact—we believe there is a better way.

Welcome to the official publication of Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS).

If you are reading this, you are likely a student, an educator, a parent, or simply a curious mind looking for a fresh perspective on higher education in India. You’ve come to the right place.

Why We Are Here

For decades, the Kumaraguru Institutions have been synonymous with excellence in education. But KCLAS was born from a specific vision: to create a space where education isn’t just about acquiring a degree; it’s about becoming.

We launched this blog to look beyond the brochure. While our website tells you what we offer, this space is dedicated to who we are and why we do what we do.

Here, we don’t just talk about syllabi; we talk about ideas.

The Liberal Arts Misconception

There is a myth that "Liberal Arts" is only about literature or history. At KCLAS, we are breaking that mold.

Liberal Arts is an approach, not just a subject list. It is the belief that a Data Science student becomes a better analyst when they understand human Psychology. It is the understanding that a Business Administration major leads better when they understand Political Science and sociology.

It is about connecting the dots between disparate fields to solve the complex problems of tomorrow.

What You Can Expect From This Publication

We are turning this platform over to our community—our students, our faculty, and our alumni. Over the coming weeks and months, here is what you will find on this page:

  • Student Chronicles: Authentic, unfiltered stories about life on campus. From the stress of finals to the thrill of organizing cultural fests like Yugam.

  • Thought Leadership: Our faculty members weighing in on current events, technological trends, and social shifts.

  • The "KCLAS Edge": Deep dives into our unique academic framework and how we balance the "Core" (academics) with the "Edge" (holistic growth).

  • Alumni Spotlights: Where do KCLASians go? We track the journeys of our graduates who are making waves in diverse industries.

Join the Conversation

Education is a dialogue, not a monologue. We want this blog to be a two-way street. Whether you are a prospective student curious about campus life, or an industry professional looking to collaborate, we invite you to read, comment, and share your thoughts.

At Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science, we are building a generation of critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, and responsible leaders.

What Liberal Arts Actually Means in India — and Why It's Often Misunderstood

Image
Say "liberal arts" to most Indian parents and watch their face fall. It's time to fix that misunderstanding. Say the words "liberal arts" to a typical Indian family, and you can predict the reaction almost exactly. A slight pause. A follow-up question: "So, like, arts group? BA?" And underneath that question, an unspoken worry — is this a real degree, or is this what you do when engineering and medicine don't work out? That reaction isn't stupidity. It's the entirely reasonable result of decades of vocabulary confusion. In India, "arts" has long been shorthand for one specific academic stream — as opposed to science or commerce — chosen mostly by students who didn't clear the cutoff for something else. "Liberal arts," despite sharing a word, means something almost entirely different. And the gap between what the term actually means and what it sounds like it means is costing a lot of talented students an education ...

It offers an opportunity to understand not only other people but also the factors that influence our everyday decisions and experiences. However, choosing the right psychology programme involves more than simply being interested in human behaviour. Students should consider the subjects they will study, the practical learning opportunities available, the quality of the academic environment and the career paths they may wish to pursue after graduation. A well-chosen psychology degree can provide a strong foundation for further education and a variety of professional opportunities. Understanding What a Psychology Degree Offers Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and behaviour. It explores questions such as why people respond d...

Why a Political Science Degree Is Still the Best Foundation for UPSC — Even in the Data Age

Image
Dashboards can tell you what's happening. Political science teaches you why it matters — and what to do about it. Every year, the UPSC aspirant community gets a little more anxious about the same question: does it still make sense to study political science, or should ambitious students pivot toward data science, public policy analytics, or some hybrid degree that promises to make them "exam-ready" through sheer technical firepower? Coaching centers now sell modules on GIS mapping and statistical reasoning for the mains exam. It's easy to conclude that the humanities foundation UPSC aspirants have relied on for decades is starting to look outdated. It isn't. If anything, the data age has made a political science degree more relevant to civil services preparation, not less — because the exam was never really testing what data literacy alone can answer. The UPSC Exam Was Never a Data Problem Look closely at what the UPSC syllabus actually rewards, and a pattern e...
